UK Government Rolls-Out Universal Credit in Cardiff

***UK Government Rolls-Out Universal Credit in Cardiff ***

Universal Credit, a benefit being implemented by the UK Government, is starting in Cardiff on 28th February 2018.

So, what is this?

Universal Credit is a working age benefit that is replacing 6 means-tested benefits and tax credits. It combines:

– Child Tax Credit
– Housing Benefit
– Income Support
– income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
– income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
– Working Tax Credit

into one monthly payment, paid in arrears.

Anybody claiming Universal Credit will have to do so online and continue to manage their claim and any job seeking. They will also need to have a bank account and email address.

For those who continue to receive the above benefits, the UK Government will produce a phased roll-out in 2019, with the aim of all eligible people claiming Universal Credit by 2022.

Cardiff Council is ready for the implementation and there are a number of advice points to help residents. Hubs, library’s and various community venues across Cardiff are available to help with questions on the roll-out.
