Llandaff North Labour Councillors welcome disability access to Llandaf Train Station
Labour Councillors for Llandaff Norh, Cllr Dilwar Ali and Cllr Siobhan Corria have welcomed the announcement from The Transport Minister, Edwina Hart for £12m funding for five train station across Wales.
Llandaf Train Station in Llandaff North is set to benefit from the funding following years of campaigning by Cardiff North Assembly Member, Julie Morgan and Cllrs Ali and Corria.
A £2.5m project at Llandaf station will involve the installation of a new stepped-footbridge with two lifts. This will provide a fully accessible route to platform two (for Cardiff-bound trains) for the first time. The project will also provide an accessible drop off point, disabled car park spaces, improved station signage and some new tactile paving. Work starts in May and is due to be completed by the end of 2014.
Cllr Ali said “The improvements will ensure accessibility for disabled people and parents with children in prams and pushchairs and prams. We have campaigned for many years and are really happy to support this scheme”.
Cllr Corria said “I can remember carrying my children’s pushchairs over the footbridge for a number of years. The improvements will make public transport easier to access for disabled people and parents of young children. This really is a significant announcement for the residents of Llandaff North”.
