13th May 2018 – Cardiff’s biggest ever car-free day

From today (16th April), Cardiff Council will be launching the brand new campaign to promote Cardiff’s biggest ever car-free day, which will see 14 of the city centre’s roads closed to all traffic on Sunday the 13th May 2018. The HSBC Let’s Ride family cycle event will also be held on the same day as part of the Car Free Day offer.

There are 108,000 vehicles entering and exiting our city centre during a typical day, during that same period only 5,300 people choose to cycle. Cardiff Council is keen to change these statistics. The council wants to do everything it can to encourage sustainable forms of travel. It would transform the way the city looks and feels.

A variety of family-friendly, on-street entertainment and activities are planned for Castle Street and North Road. Some activities have already been agreed and the council we will be releasing further information on the exact line-up closer to the event.

These include:

• HSBC Lets Ride Family Cycle Ride (5km cycle route)
• BMX stunt riders using a jump box
• Live music and performances
• Activities and games
• A skateboard ramp
• Nextbikes and Pedal Power bikes
• A climbing wall
• A mountain biking track
• Information on sustainable travel

Anyone interested in getting involved on the day – either supplying entertainment or helping out – can send enquiries to [email protected]
