Earlier in the year, The First Minister, Carwyn Jones announced funding for the The Pupil Deprivation Grant. The grant is to support students from poorer backgrounds in their education.
The Pupil Deprivation Grant allows schools to put in place practical help to improve the educational attainment of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who often face greater barriers to fulfilling their potential at school.
Schools receive the money directly, and the funding is aimed particularly at supporting literacy and numeracy. Schools are encouraged to track the progress of particular students and to work with parents and community groups to improve outcomes.
We have received the figures for the grant allocation for schools in Llandaff North (2012 – 2013):
Gabalfa Primary School – £26,550
Hawthorn Primary School – £17,550
Meadowbank Primary School – £6,300
Ysgol Glan Ceubal – £450
Ysgol Gyfaen Gymraeg Glantaf – £45,900
