New schools for Llandaff North?
Two new schools for Llandaff North is one of three options being put out for consultation in February. People will be able to say whether they want:
1. Ysgol Glan Ceubal and Gabalfa Primary School extended and adapted
2. A new school and nursery for Glan Ceubal and a new standalone nursery and reception class unit at Gabalfa
3. Two new schools built back to back.
Option 1 would cost £4.6million, Option 2 would cost £5.1million and Option 3 would be in excess of £6million.
Although the third option is more expensive, running costs would be cheaper and lead to savings in the long run.
Fifty per cent of the funding is coming from Welsh Government and the other half from Cardiff Council.
“Improvements are badly needed at the schools,” said Cllrs Dilwar Ali and Sue White. “Whichever proposal is favoured by people, it is great news for both schools and real credit is due to the Welsh Government and Cardiff Council.”
Cllr Ali has campaigned for a permanent Welsh school with provision of a Welsh nursery, which should now become a reality in 2017.
Work could start next year and should be completed in 2017.The Welsh nursery is scheduled to be open in January 2016.
