ARE YOU HAVING GARDEN OR IMPROVEMENT WORK CARRIED OUT TO YOUR HOME? IF SO, PLEASE READ THIS!
If you give your recycling and waste to another company to get rid of, it is your responsibility to make sure they are a registered waste carrier.
1. they have a waste carrier licence. You can check this here:
2. you take details of the company’s name and contact details,
3. you get receipts confirming what they have taken and where they have taken it, and
ask where the waste is being taken.
If you do not make these checks and your items are fly-tipped you may be held responsible.
It is an offence under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to fly-tip any material. This offence carries a maximum penalty of up to £50,000. Or for very serious offences you could receive a fine and up to five years in prison. A court may also order an offender to pay costs for all removal undertaken by the council.
IF RESIDENTS WITNESS ANY BUILDERS OR GARDENERS FLYTIPPING WASTE, RATHER THAN TAKING THIS MATERIAL TO A HWRC, PLEASE REPORT DETAILS TO THE COUNCIL’S ENFORCEMENT TEAM BELOW:
